Together with five other family members, Rawand and Sardam arrived in Dunkirk on a rainy day in mid-December. Briefly informed by an uncle who is staying in the camp in Calais, Rawand already knew about the conditions in Dunkirk. Still, in the first minutes upon arrival the young man looks visibly despondent. Volunteers gave the family a tent to stay in, but the flooded uneven and muddy ground made it hard to find a suitable place so that the family had to set up their shelter inside a discarded US-army tent.
The Family hopes to join relatives in the UK.
